How long should titles and descriptions be?

Google truncates search snippets by pixel width — roughly 60 characters for titles. This tool measures "width" (CJK characters count as 2, others as 1): aim for 20–60 for titles and 70–160 for descriptions, with the key phrase near the start.

Every page should have its own title and description that accurately describe it; otherwise Google may rewrite them.

FAQ

It says my title is missing, but the browser tab shows one. Why?

Your site probably sets the title with JavaScript (a client-side React or Vue app). This tool checks the HTML the server returns — what search engines see on first crawl — so consider server-side rendering.

What does a yellow canonical mean?

The canonical points to a different URL than the one checked. That is fine if it intentionally points to the main version; otherwise search engines may not index this page.

Can a page have more than one H1?

HTML5 allows it, but for SEO one clear H1 per page is recommended.

Why can't I check my intranet site?

For security, checkers only connect to public internet addresses, not localhost or private IPs.
