# Unix Timestamp Converter

Updated: 2026-10-03

The Unix Timestamp Converter works both ways in one field: enter a number like 1759460000 and it detects whether it is seconds, milliseconds, microseconds or nanoseconds and shows the date; enter a date like 2026-10-03 12:00 and it returns Unix seconds and milliseconds. Pick a time zone (UTC, New York, London, Tokyo and more) and see ISO 8601 and relative time.

## How to use the Unix Timestamp Converter

1. Enter a timestamp (e.g. 1759460000) or a date and time (e.g. 2026-10-03 12:00).
2. Choose the time zone to display or interpret the date in — your local zone by default.
3. The date, Unix seconds, milliseconds and ISO 8601 appear instantly.
4. Press "Now" for the current timestamp, or "Copy" to copy the seconds.

## FAQ

### How do I know if a timestamp is in seconds or milliseconds?

Count the digits: current times are 10 digits in seconds and 13 in milliseconds. The tool detects it and shows the unit under "Detected unit".

### Why is the converted time off by several hours?

Unix timestamps are UTC. Choose your time zone in the tool, and make sure your code converts to local time when displaying.

### Which time zone is used for the date I type?

A date without a zone (e.g. 2026-10-03 12:00) is read in the selected time zone; ISO 8601 strings with Z or +09:00 use the zone in the string.

### What does a negative timestamp mean?

A time before 1970 — for example −86400 is December 31, 1969.
