Updated: 2026-10-04

The Markdown Table Generator turns data copied from Excel or Google Sheets (tab-separated) or CSV into a Markdown table. It fills missing cells, escapes | characters and pads columns — counting full-width CJK characters correctly — so the source lines up in a monospace font. Paste an existing Markdown table to reformat it or change its alignment, and switch to "Preview" to see the result.

## How to use the Markdown Table Generator

1. Copy cells in Excel or Google Sheets and paste them on the left — CSV or an existing Markdown table also works.
2. Choose column alignment and whether the first row is a header.
3. The Markdown appears instantly; switch to "Preview" to see the table.
4. Press "Copy" and paste into a README, GitHub issue or notes app.

## FAQ

### Can I paste straight from Excel?

Yes. Copied cells are tab-separated and detected automatically.

### Why pad the columns?

Markdown renders fine without padding, but aligned source is easier to read and edit. Turn off "Align columns" for the most compact table.

### Can cells be merged?

Standard Markdown (including GitHub) does not support merged cells; use an HTML table if you need them.
